Eight sports named for 2011 SPG

With less than a year to go before the 14th South Pacific Games gets underway in Noumea New Caledonia, the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands’ justification committee have taken a major step in selecting the sports that will make up the country’s contingent for the event.
Yesterday chairman of the national selection and justification committee Ronald Bei Talasasa announced only eight sports federations as already meeting the standards to participate at the upcoming SP games.
Other sports need and have yet to convince the justification committee by raising their level of competitiveness to win medals for the country until they can be considered and be given the opportunity.

Incoming government urged to support sports

The new government which will be formed after the elections must redirect its support towards sports for the betterment of sports in the country.
A senior government official sounded this warning during a sports workshop today following what he described as the lack of realistic improvement in sports in the country.

They are scheduled to travel two days before the election and could miss out on casting their vote on one of the nation's most important days.

Gizo’s JFK Stadium set to open in October

The rehabilitation and upgrading of John F Kennedy Stadium in Gizo, Western Province, is progressing well according to Solomon Islands Football Federation Turf Manager, Reuben Oimae.
Despite weather difficulties, much of the first part of work has already been completed.
The project is expected to be completed by October to compliment SIFF’s National Soccer League competition.
