2009 has been a memorable year for the national futsal side having successfully competed in two major futsal tournaments. Futsal development officer Victor Wai`ia says 2010 will be another challenging year for futsal in the country.

Sports against Crime ended with Prize Presentation
The Christmas against crime sports tournament ended yesterday with the finals of the futsal competition and the official prize presentation of the inaugural event. For the organizers of the tournament it has been a success and already there are plans in place for another tournament next year.

English FA coaching workshop underway in Honiara

The English FA Beginners Coaching Program is currently underway at the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Academy in Honiara.
The beginners’ course which started on Thursday will end on Saturday. It will also continue on Sunday with its Junior Coaching course until Tuesday next week.
The program was scheduled to start on Tuesday but changes in the travel arrangements of the course instructors has caused the late start.
Marist to face Hekari in must win match

National Club Champions Marist FC will play Hekari South United in Port Moresby tomorrow in a do-or-die clash in Group B of the O-League Competition.
The match is a must win match for Patrick Miniti’s side in order to keep them in contention for a better pool position in Group B.
Telekom to continue supporting football

Solomon Islands Football Federation, SIFF can still enjoy the support of Our Telekom in the next two years.
Our Telekom’s official sponsorship package for the year 2009 with SIFF ended after the completion of the Our Telekom Solomon Cup tournament, Saturday last week.
However, Our Telekom’s Chief Executive Officer Loyley Ngira admits the company is willing to continue its support to football for the next two years.

The finals of the Our Telekom Solomon cup event were a success both from a sporting point of view as well as a police perspective. The day passed without any disturbances thanks to the heavy security provided by the royal Solomon Islands Police force and their regional counterparts.
Malaita crowned Solomon Cup champions

The Malaita Eagles soccer team are the reigning Solomon Cup champions after annihilating the Guadalcanal Hornets in an eight-nil thrashing at Lawson tama on Saturday.
Guadalcanal Hornets failed to find their form in a match that was an anti climax after a closely fought loser’s final between Lauru Kuvojo’s and Honiara Warriors saw the warriors scrape into third place from the penalty shoot out after a full 120 minutes of play.
Women’s Solomon Cup champions shine

The Our Telekom Solomon Cup Women’s competition ended with the Finals today, with Malaita taking on Western Province for the top award.
While Isabel plays Guadalcanal in the losers final.
Police to tighten security during finals

The finals of the Our Telekom sponsored Solomon Cup will be held on Saturday with four teams taking on each other in two finals playoffs.
The loser’s finals of the competition will be between the Honiara Warriors and the Lauru Kuvojo while the grand final will be between the Malaita Eagles and the Guadalcanal Hornets.
And this time round the police have stated that they will out in force during the finals on Saturday.
The police will be assisting the contracted security firm to ensure that the finals are peaceful.
The police are also urging spectators to exercise vigilance while cheering for their teams.
Malaita and Guadalcanal through to finals

Malaita Eagles and Guadalcanal Hornets are through to the Grand Final play off, of the Our Telekom Solomon Cup Tournament on Saturday after winning their respective semi-final matches at Lawson Tama.
Malaita Eagles beat Lauru Kuvojo 5-1 in the first semi-final match while Guadalcanal hornets defeated Honiara Warriors 1-0 in the other semi-final match.
Solomon Cup tournament into knockout stage

The Our Telekom Solomon Cup tournament is set for another intriguing level of football as the tournament enters into the knock out stage this week.
Following a week of intense battle, from the 10 provincial sides, Honiara Warriors, Malaita Eagles from Pool B and Lauru Kuvojo and Guadalcanal Hornets from Pool A progresses to the semi-finals of the competition.
