Four Young Solomon Island Athletes to compete at Youth Olympics

For many Solomon Islanders competing in the Olympic Games is only a distant dream.
But for 4 young athletes the dream of competing in an Olympic Game is only weeks away from becoming a reality.
Today the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands organized a briefing workshop for the Solomon Islands Youth Olympic Games contingent.

No word yet on our athletes for Singapore Youth Olympics

Solomon Islands Chef de Mission for the Youth Olympic Games, Morris Maitaki has yet to receive approval from the International Olympic Committee, IOC on its list of athletes for the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
Maitaki says he has submitted four athletes, one female weightlifter, a male wrestler and two runners.

12 to represent S.I at Commonwealth Games

The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands will be sending 10-12 athletes and officials to the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in October.
Despite being offered 20 spaces by the games host India.

Amicale FC, Solomon Islands importes continued their fine form with the club last week, when they defeated Tupuji FC in Vanuatu’s PVFA  league tournament. One news was in Vanuatu over the weekend and captured some action of the match which Striker Kidston Billy scored the third goal of their 3-0 victory against Tupuji which pushs Amicale FC 7 points clear with 27 points ahead of Vanuatu’s O-League rep Tafea FC with 20 points

The Solomon Islands Learn & play Team was crowned champions of the Inaugural TVL Junior Wantok Cup tournament in Vanuatu yesterday. This is after the team thrashed Vanuatu South Academy 4-1 in their final match to finish top of the 5 team tournament with 12 points.

Bilikiki knocked out of beach soccer world cup


Solomon Islands have been knock out from the beach soccer world cup this morning after losing their last pool game against Portugal.

Bilikiki defeated by Emirates in Dubai

Solomon Islands hopes of proceeding to the knockout stage of the FIFA beach soccer world cup in Dubai are very slim after downing down to tournament host United Arab Emirates 1-7 this morning. After a dramatic 7-6 win against Urugay in their opening match, the Bilikiki could not follow that up with another win as the hosts proved too strong in front of a home crowd. And with the Portugal, rank no-2 in the world up next for the Bilikiki boys in the final group match, a dream date in the next stage, is a challenging task.UAE face Uruguay tomorrow as the group stages draw to a close, while Solomon Islands play Portugal at 11:30pm local time tonight with the winner to shield qualification for the knock stage.

Bilikiki upset Uruguay in first match

The Bilikiki boys break through with an upset win over Uruguay. The Solomon Islands survived a late onslaught to edge Uruguay 7-6 in what was an exhilarating start to their FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Dubai 2009 campaign. The Oceania representatives held a five-goal cushion with just six minutes remaining, but will be mightily relieved to have put three points on the board following a spirited comeback from their Group A rivals.

Bilikiki narrowly lost first Pre-World Cup friendly

The national beach soccer team Solomon Bilikiki narrowly went down to Switzerland in their first friendly match this morning in Dubai. They lost 1-3 to a very fit and prepared Swiss team led by Angelo Shirinzi who came to assist the Bilikiki last year. It was the Oceania champs who opened the scoring but later conceded 3 goals in what is said to be a very close game which the Bilikiki could have won. The match was the first of three friendly’s organized in Dubai prior to the FIFA beach soccer world cup which starts Monday next week. Meanwhile OFC is trying very hard to have the Swiss Coach Davor Ivcevic who help trained Bilikiki in Honiara early this month to join the team for the World Cup.

Kurukurus return home from Libya outing

The Solomon Kurukuru arrived back in the country today to a welcoming party by parents and family members at the International Airport.
The young stars returned with a gift of their own with host country Libya offering to build a stadium for futsal in the country.
